Our verdict
Yellow Mountain Imports is the workhorse brand of American mahjong: complete sets, honest melamine tiles, every accessory in the case. Chinoise is its dressed-up traditional option — the set a club buys when it wants one purchase to end the shopping. Melamine will not feel like layered acrylic, and at roughly half the all-in cost of a designer setup, it is not supposed to.
